TMT-Test

What is TMT Test

The TMT Test (Treadmill Test), also known as Exercise Stress Test, is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate how well your heart functions under physical stress. During this test, you walk on a treadmill while your heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG (electrocardiogram) are monitored. The test helps doctors assess the heart’s response to exercise and detect any heart-related problems that may not be apparent at rest.

Key Features of a TMT Test:

  1. Physical Stress Test: The test involves walking on a treadmill that gradually increases in speed and incline. The goal is to stress the heart and see how it responds to increased workload.
  2. Heart Function Monitoring: During the test, your ECG, heart rate, and blood pressure are continuously monitored to identify any irregularities, such as abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) or reduced blood flow to the heart.
  3. Assessment of Heart Health: The TMT test is often used to:
    • Diagnose coronary artery disease (CAD) by detecting angina (chest pain) or ischemia (reduced blood flow to the heart).
    • Evaluate exercise tolerance in patients with known heart conditions.
    • Monitor recovery after heart surgery or a heart attack.
  4. Non-Invasive: The test is safe, simple, and non-invasive, with minimal risks involved.
  5. Duration: The test typically lasts about 5 to 15 minutes, depending on how long the patient can tolerate the exercise.
